DIY: Frumpy gloves to sleek and fitted

I found a pair of gloves at Kohl’s that was the exact style, price (it was about $1 after stacking several coupons and deals), and material I was looking for. The only problem was that the cut was boxy, which made them look frumpy (According to the dictionary “frumpy” only applies to women’s clothing. I assure you these are men’s gloves and they look manly on me. I just don’t have a better word to describe it.) and also prevented them from staying on my hand while I held things.

Before

After

Making the modification is pretty quick and easy. All you need is a sewing machine.

First, try on the gloves. Get an idea for which parts are too large. For me, the wrist area and some of the fingers were too wide. Measure how much you want to take it in and make a note of that.

Flip the gloves inside-out. Make sure all the fingers are flipped completely out–you don’t want to accidentally sew your fingers shut!

Referring to your measurements and keeping with the general shape of the glove, sew a new stitch. The parts in blue in this diagram are where I sewed:

Flip the gloves back (Is the opposite of inside-out called outside-out?) and try them on. Do they fit how you want them to? If not, all you have to do is flip them back inside-out, rip out your stitch, and try again. Once you’re happy with the way they fit, flip them inside-out and cut off some of the excess fabric making sure to not cut over the seam you sewed.
